Your Password
How do I change my password?
The security of your password is paramount and if you think it has been compromised it is best to change it. The more characters the better and use upper and lower case letters. Try not to use the names of your children, dog or family members. Never give your password to anyone else as you will be held solely responsible for any content that appears on the site under your username. If you want to change your password click on the ‘Your profile’ button at the top of your kennel screen (this is in the shape of a small green head) and change the details on the next screen.
Can’t Log-in?
There could be a technical reason for this but, before you contact the Editor, just run through this check list:-
Are you using the e-mail address you registered with and have you spelt it correctly? Some of you have work and numerous personal email addresses and it is very easy to forget which one you used to register. Click on the forgotten password button on the home page and a reminder will be sent to the email address you registered with.
You may have mis-typed your password during the registration procedure, or used capital letters within it, (the password is case sensitive) so have it re-sent to refresh your memory.
Treats and Favourites
How do I give another dog a treat?
When you visit a kennel you will see on the right hand side a small brown bone icon with the words, ‘give a treat’. If you like the dog in the photo clicking on the bone will send a virtual treat to the dog. This will increase his treat total by one.
Why can’t I give my dog lots of treats?
To make the chart fair we had to stop people giving their dogs hundreds of treats a day. Now you can only treat an individual dog once in any 24 hour period. If you look on the highlights page you will see which dog is the most treated that week, and ever.
How do I make another member my friend?
If you meet another member on the site via; the forum, an exchange of comments in your kennel, private/public messages, or simply love their dog and kennel you need to click on the user name under ‘my kennel’ on the right hand side of the page. I like to think that you are making friends with the owner not the dog and this is why you need to click on the member’s username. On the next screen you will see a large green button which says ‘add to my friends’ click on this and you have a new pal. They will be informed that you have made them a friend.
Why would I make someone a favourite?
When you are using the site you will find you are drawn to certain dogs and kennels. If you love a certain dog, and would like to be able to go back to visit it regularly, then click on the ‘add to favourites’ button, under their photo. This pic will then appear as a thumbnail in your own kennel and by clicking on this thumbnail image you will be taken straight to that dog’s kennel without having to search for it. The likelihood is that you will make friends with these kennel owners and ‘favourites’ allows you to build a doggy address book, to make visiting your friends on the site quick and easy.
Who has ‘favourited’ my pictures and how can I thank them?
Under each of the photographs in your kennel you will see how many times that picture has been ‘favourited’. Clicking on this button will show you which member made your dog a favourite and you can then visit their kennel and see if you want to return the favour. Many on-line friendships begin in this way.
How many favourites can I have in my kennel?
As many as you care to add but your kennel will become very slow. Slow for you to use and slow for other members to access. We suggest no more that 20 favourites and keep your own photos down to a sensible number. We know you have lots to share but it is better for everyone if you change them regularly.
Comments and Messages
Why can’t I leave a comment?
This is a really common question and the simple answer is you are in ‘viewing mode’ and haven’t logged in. Take a look at the very top right hand corner of the screen to make sure your name is shown there. This tells you that you are logged in. If it reads ‘log in’ you know you aren’t. This is also relevant when using the forum as you can only post if you are a registered member who is also logged in.
Some of my comments have disappeared – why?
To make life easier for you, only the most recent comments you have received are displayed. If you want to see comments from the previous month or all of the comments you have received you need to select the corresponding time frame from the drop down box at the top of the screen.
Your Account
How do I change my email address?
At the top of your kennel screen you will see a small green head of a person in profile after the ‘Your profile’ text. This is where your original registration information is stored. Click on the head and update or correct your details as your circumstances change. Make sure you save the changes you make at the bottom of the screen.
I want to alter my personal details – where are they kept?
See the reply above.
I’ve put the wrong information in my dog’s profile/personality – how do I change it?
In your kennel you will see (to the right of your dog’s primary photo) the words ‘update (your dog’s name) profile|personality’. Click on the one you want to change, make the alteration and save the change – simple as that.
I can’t upload my photos – why?
Photos have to be in JPEG format and less than 4MB in size. Check that your images meet these two requirements.
When I try to upload a photo it says that the photo already exists but I can’t see it in my kennel – what’s happening?
If, for some reason, a photo doesn’t upload successfully the site archives the photograph but doesn’t publish it. To reduce the chance of this happening do not navigate away from the page during an upload. The site does everything it can to avoid duplicates appearing (for obvious reasons) and when you make another attempt with the same photo it blocks it. To get around this just re-name your photo by adding a letter or number to the original title and try again. The system will treat it as a new photo as the name is different and it should appear.
A friend can’t find my kennel in the search function – why not?
The use of symbols in your username can often lead to them being skipped over by our search engine as the system finds it hard to recognize them. The symbols are often replaced with the underscore symbol _. Try not to used any odd symbols in your name and, if you have, let people know to search using _ instead of the symbols when looking for you using our search.
I want to change my username. Can I do this myself?
This is something that has to be done by a member of staff. Contact the Editor with your reasons for wanting the change. We only do this if the reason is genuine as it has technical implications.
Anything Else
What is a tag and why should I use them?
A tag is a word used to describe an element of your photograph. Most typically it would cover a description of your dog and the activity the dog is involved in in the picture. Some example tags could be; yellow, Labrador, puppy, pond, swimming, ball. If anyone then typed any of these individual words into the search field, this photo would be displayed. It really helps everyone to find the type of pictures they want to look at quickly and easily.
If you haven't tagged any of your photos follow these simple instructions.
Go to your kennel.
Click on 'organise x's photos' to the right of your primary photo.
On the next screen click on the edit button under the photo you want to add tags to.
Type in the words ('tags' ) that describe the photograph.
Save them by clicking on the 'save' button.
