Dogs have been my passion all of my life and luckily my husband loves them too. Just wish I could have a dozen! Even when I was little I was pretty sure I did not want children just puppies!

Hi Lynn, thanks for your concern regarding the back porch. The good news is the buider finished yesterday, so I was able to use it today for the first time and it was worth waiting for! The joy of bringing in wet dogs to a dry area, so I could rub them down at my leisure before they went into the house was a joy. Worth every penny! I do agree that we don't expect to have piles of wet dog towells at this time of year. Like you, we have had some nice weather between the wet and the cool weather is better for the dogs. I expect Jenna has a thick coat like my girls and they do feel the heat. Once I have finished painting the inside of the porch, I shall put a rug on the ground and then leave the back door open, so they can sleep out there if they prefer. It will be cooler in the summer. The bad news is that next week I have a fitter coming to fit some carpets, so I shall have to keep the dogs in the kitchen and porch. Isla is friendly to visitors, but won't leave them alone, so I shall have to keep her away! I shall be glad when everything is finished. Hugs to Jenna. Best wishes from Martin, Gemma and Isla.

Hi Lynn Interesting to read about the habits of your dogs. I have to agree that they all have their different ways. My mothers last dog was a Border Colley/Bernese Mountain cross. She was a gentle giant and was so fussy about her appearance so would even walk AROUND puddles, yet so would gobble up cow pats and then get an upset stomach. My mother used to shout at her but she knew she could not catch her so used to run out of reach, yet if I took her, I would shout when I saw her eating and she would spit it out! My mother used to get so annoyed. They are so knowing and you have to admire their cheek! Isla is finally getting the message that to rush up to other dogs is wrong, so we have been enjoying our recent walks. It is so much nicer to meet new dogs and having them all get on. Also I am feeling less guilty when my neighbour takes them out! Love to Jen from Isla and Gemma. Best wishes Martin

Hi Lynn thanks for the message, Millie is fighting fit at long last, we have had her for 4 weeks now and last week it the first week she hasnt been ill. she is a little devil into everthing, she is like having a toddler around, I am forever looking for her if she is quite. But she is a great joy to have around. and she makes us laugh. she got on the window sill when my son drove off to work and she isnt exactly a small dog. but she was very carefull around my ornaments. Love Chris x

Hi again, I forgot to comment on Jenna having to have a bath. It reminded me of Isla when I was in Spain. It was a particularly horrid day with heavy rain. There was a break in the morning so I was able to walk for an hour before the rain set in again. Later in the afternoon, the rain eased so I took them along a rocky beach, then half way the rain started again, so I hastily ran to the road and started back to the camp site. However, I could smell a terrible stink of rotten fish. When I got back to my motor home, I realised it was around Islas' neck. It was pouring with rain so could do more than wipe her neck with a wet cloth. She stank for about two days. When I returned to the beach, I watched her like a hawk and suddenly saw her put her head down towards a rock. I shouted as loud as I could and she stopped. When I looked, there was a rotten flat fish that had become standed on the rock. Needless to say, we gave the area a wide berth on future walks. All dogs seem to be different. The two Golden Retrievers we owned years ago, would roll in anything including wet cow pats! They were frequently hosed down in the garden! German Shepherds seem more discerning and only seem to try it once or twice a year so it isn't too bad. Hope Jenna is smelling a bit sweeter now. Regards Martin

Hi Lynn Lovely to hear from you again; yes the holiday does seem a long way ago, yet still catching up on various things which occured while away. I do agree with you that Switzerland and Austria are so beautiful. The temperature in Switzerland was fine for all of us and we even saw snow lying on the passes which the girls enjoyed . It was when we came through the Alps to Innsbruck that the temperature soared. There was a 'Fern' wind which comes from the south and it just felt like sitting in a fan oven!! I also try to go to Scotland early in the year around May, and usually just avoid the midges. I was planning to go up this year in September, but two friends in Switzerland have tickets for the Tattoo in August and they can't find accommodation or any reasonable flights, so have offerred me the tickets, which means I may go in August instead. I really don't like going away that time of year, but it seems too good to turn down. We also get ticks on Exmoor and the Quantock hills, but nothing like we experienced in Germany. Thanks for the warning about those in the New Forest; I think I shall avoid taking the dogs there. There is good news regarding the dogs on the beach in the winter. The new council have promised to review the situation and hope to allow dogs on the beach from October to Easter, with the proviso that people clean up after their dogs. The problem is that there is always someone who is irresponsible, so the leaders of the protests are hoping to arange protrols to keep the beach clean. I hope it will work out. I shall try to upload a couple of photos of the girls on holiday. Best wishes to all, Martin

Hi Lynn, As you see I returned last Thursday. Had a great time in Switzerland and really crashed out at my friends house, so was ready for the long drive ahead. Unfortunately Austria and Germany were far to hot, not just for the two girls, but for me as well! In addition, they both had bad attacks from ticks in the forest. I must have taken out about 100 altogether. It was really unpleasant. Even now, since their treatment prior to returning to the U.K., they are still dropping off (dead of course), but horrible! Fortunately, they have no after effects, except Gemma had swollen eyes yesterday morning, so I rushed her to the vets, but it was nothing to do with her ticks, but a reaction to something in the woods that morning. She has now returned to normal although, I am still applying drops to her eyes. She is so good and just stays still while I apply the drops. She trusts me, which is all you can ask. Next year I shall return to Scotland for some cooler weather!!! How is Jenna? Hope you are all well. Best wishes Martin

Morning Jenna, I hope the weather brightens up for you soon, we do keep getting the occassional 5 minute shower, but then the sun comes out, its very strange, it must be that global warming thingy they keep talking about! Well, I hope you have a better day today, the suns shining here again so I'm off for a long walk with mum later, sending you a potatoe cake for breakfast, Love & licks Biggie xx

Hi Lynn Glad you and Jen had a lovely time on holiday. We are leaving for our holiday tomorrow. Initially we are driving to Switzerland to stay with friends, then visit some other friends en-route. We are then driving through Austria, Slovakia to the Tatra mountains in Poland (near Zakopane). On the return, we are visiting Dresden, Meissen, Berlin (to visit another friend) and Brunswick, where I have another friend, so although I am not back until 31st May, it is going to be quite busy, but I hope to enjoy the peace and quiet of the mountains where we can all go for long walks! On the beach ban, we have had other marches up to the end of April, but are having a break during May because there is a new council (the Tories have swept to power to replace a Lib dem/Lab coalition. All the candidates that have been questioned are all against the ban, so I don't know how it got through! If nothing is forthcoming by the end of May, then we shall be marching again. I shall contact you again next month to let you know how we got on. Best wishes Martin

Hi Lynn, brilliant news - Bonnie has now been rehomed after 7 or 8 long months in the kennel so no more being cooped up for her! I'm so pleased for her and thought you might like to know too! I've taken her off my kennel in Doggysnaps cause I thought her new owner might want to put her on. Thanks for all your lovely messages and I'll keep coming by to see how Jenna's getting on. Jenny x
