Collie crosses, Sandy, Kerry and Max, form our family. We've had seven other dogs over the past 36 years, of which two, Pebbles and Holly, are featured here.
The dogs have persuaded me that my prime function in life is to take them out so that they can get muddy either by or in the canal.

Hi Max, We had an “interesting” walk on Monday. Wandered along the river bank and met 2 other dogs that we hadn’t met before. One of them, a large terrier, snapped at Alfie, who stayed well out of his way. Meanwhile little Dylan was wandering along the bank, chatting to the fishermen, smelling the flowers, and generally acting like his namesake, the hippie rabbit, from Magic Roundabout. Large terrier saw Dills and had a rather nasty glint in his eye, marched up to the little chap, and snapped at him – little did he realize that under that gentle exterior lurks a Ninja! A quick snap, and some very rude language from Dills later, and the terrier exited extremely rapidly up the path, while Dills sauntered on completely unconcerned. He then spent a lot of time approaching Dylan, and assuring him that he wanted to be his bestist friend ever. Dills wasn’t impressed and kept his nose well stuck in the air! It was very funny, and just shows what a tough guy the little chap is, he didn’t spend time on the streets of Cambridgeshire for nothing… Leaving you a manly bacon butty, Alfie and Dylan xxx

Hello Max and mates, Mum is thinking of installing dog-cam here, as there have been mysterious goings-on when she's out at work. She got back yesterday to find paw prints (Alfie's) in the bath, and the loofah had been moved from one end of the bath to the other. V. odd. We'll probably not be on tomorrow as Mum has got to work late (never mind our secretarial needs!). Dylan's off to the vets on Saturday for his first check-up since the start of the year - keep your paws crossed for the little chap. Leaving you some pepperoni pizza, Alfie and Dylan xxx

Hi Max and pals, Mum said that us two boys were very sweet last night. Dylan is still finding commands very hard to follow – most of the time “sit” remains a complete mystery to him, in spite of a range of training methods, and then last night … we think we had a bit of a breakthrough. Mum was trying to get Dylan to sit before his dinner, no luck, he looked at her trustingly and very confusedly, then she had a brainwave – whistled up Alfie, and told him to sit, which he did beautifully, then turned to Dylan and repeated the command – and he copied Alfie! Mum was thrilled and made a huge fuss of both. Alfie says that he was never told on his job description that he was expected to be a dog trainer too (although he’s very good at it). Leaving you a non-canine hot dog, Alfie and Dylan xx

Hi Max and pals, Alfie was v. pleased to know that you're into the veg - he loves his fruit and veg, and says you're welcome anytime to find where she's hidden it. Glad to know that things seem to be going well at the vets, those yummy treats are evidently doing the trick! Dylan was v. impressed too, as an older dog, with your prowess with the ladies! It's been wet and windy here today - we waited for a break in the rain and went for a walk, but it wasn't as long as we were hoping. Mum could barely breathe - the wind was so strong, Alfie was loopier than ever trying to chase his frisbee which was going all over the place - and Dylan generally stayed in Mum's slipstream otherwise he would have taken off! Alfie reckoned if we'd tied a balloon on him he'd probably have ended up in Moscow! The river that runs opposite our house, and where we usually take our walks was really high. The sluices must have been opened further up, it was a good foot higher than this time yesterday. A nearby town has had a severe flood warning, so it's a bit worrying, although I think we'll all be ok. At least the rain has stopped for now....Leaving you some raspberry yogurt, Alfie and Dylan xxx

Hi Max, We had fun last night – it was so cold that when we went to bed, we both decided to cuddle up to Mum, so we had a Mum sandwich with a hound either side – only problem is she takes up so much room that we had to wriggle a lot so that she gave us a bit more space – it’s amazing what a paw in the stomach, or a cold wet nose run lightly down the neck will do especially if you do it at the same time – you should have heard her shriek! We’re both fine – Alfie’s paw is much better, although he still has the odd chew – Mum doesn’t half shout if she catches him doing it, but it’s the only way to stop him. Dylan pulled the towel off the radiator last night and it landed on him! He ran off but had got it well and truly tangled round him – it did look funny seeing a towel racing across the kitchen with no sign of a dog. We’re looking forward to long walks this weekend, hoping that Alfie’s paw will stand up to it. Mum’s thinking of getting him a bed to go with Dylan’s – up to now he’s always slept on the old futon in the conservatory, but now prefers being next to his mate. Only problem is finding one that he won’t chew to pieces straightaway. Leaving you some tasty fish and chips, Alfie and Dylan xxx

Hi Max, Alfie’s paw is starting to feel better; it looks as though the sploshing with salted water and slathering with tea-tree ointment is doing the trick. He spent most of yesterday holding up the poorly paw for cuddles and sympathy. But when he did the same thing this morning Mum laughed at him – it was the wrong paw! As soon as he realized his mistake he switched to the sore one, but he had been rumbled… Both dogs now curled up on cosy beds with toys and treats, Mum had to face the sleet and snow to go to work, and they say it’s a dog’s life! Leaving you a warming bowl of chilli, Alfie and Dylan xxx

Hi Max, Alfie has injured his paw so no walks today - he got something in it yesterday, and chewed it so vigorously that he's skinned his pads. Ouch! Silly dog has done this before so Mum has been slathering it with doggy tea-tree ointment and washing in salt water every time the mutt stands still. He's not too happy about it and Dylan is licking his paws in the hope that Mum will fuss him too! Mum says that well-fed dogs shouldn't be chewing their feet like pieces of steak... Alfie is in the dog-house but getting lots of cuddles for looking so pathetic. Leaving you some beef stew, Alfie and Dylan xx

Hi Max, Sandy and Kerry, Dylan's nasty ex-Mum was back again this morning - just as we were going out for a walk. Dylan was whisked into our car so fast his paws barely touched the ground! Alfie is thinking of getting a t-shirt saying "My best friend's a German Shepherd!" (as one of Mum's best friends (the Regis of our kennel) WAS a German Shepherd, this sounds like quite a good idea!) Luckily the ex-Mum had brought a big removal van with her so it looks as though we've finally seen the back of her. Yippee! On a brighter note, as you probably know, when Dylan first moved in before Xmas he didn't know any commands at all - even his own name. Yesterday when Mum told Alfie to wait before getting out of the car, Dylan waited too - Mum was so pleased, and then yesterday when told to sit before his dinner, he sat. But....before you think there is a future Supreme obedience champion in the making, there is one small problem - he'll only sit if there's a cushion to sit on - Mum thinks she'll have to train Alfie to run after him with a cushion in his mouth ready to pop it under at the strategic moment! (Alfie, bless him, would probably do it too). Leaving you some moussaka - Mum cooks this much better than those nasty pancakes, Alfie and Dylan xxx

Hi Max, Sandy and Kerry, Alfie got to the sausage just before Dylan snaffled the last one! Ex-D-owner is still skulking but Mum is making sure now that dogs don't go outside when she's around - you wouldn't want to be dognapped! Mum got back to the cottage owners who'd put the price of taking dogs up so dramatically, and they agreed that as Alfie (never mind his Mum!) was such a good customer they'd let Dylan in for free. Yippee! So it looks as though it'll be lakes and mountains in Mid-Wales in April after all (absolute bliss for dogs and Mum) Glad to hear Max is getting on so well with his tablets. Quite right to hold out for the cheese, D thinks that the best bit of the worming tablet is the sausage casing! We're just about to drag Mum out for a run, it's a hard job but some dogs have got to do it. Leaving you some spag bol (spag not up to much, but bol v. good), Alfie and Dylan xxx
