Hi, Burtie's owner here - yesterday Burtie was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid (it is known in bassett hounds). He was still itching a lot even though we have got him on Burns food, he has been treated for mites and flees, and we have used skin balm on him, special shampoo but the itching and biting continued so i thought i'd try the vets one more time. he had a blood test and it turns out that his thyriod only scored a 6 (which is so low it's off the chart) and the vet seems to think that it's been causing his itching, etc. it maybe worth testing Mr Itchy? hi, i have also saved a bassett - we had him last november. he's 3 and we're his 4th owners - we LOVE him to bits!!! but he's VERY itchy. we've tried everything with him and bought expensive food, but i don't know if bassett's are naturally itchy dogs? is yours?
