Hi - it was lovely reading about all your gorgeous dogs although it is always tinged with sadness when realising they are no longer here at least with this site they will be remembered and admired by lots of people. The grief is just awful when they pass leaving pawprints on our hearts and huge gaps in our lives but I think it is a price worth paying for the love and fun they give us. I lost my last 2 dogs at 9 months and 6 years and it felt far worse when they had not had their rightful lifespan. Of course all our dogs are special but sometimes there are those once in a lifetime dogs and Gemma who we lost to cancer at 6 was definitely one of those with a complete understanding of over 100 words (she had over 70 toys and would unfailingly bring the one you asked for) she was my shadow. Rescued from the streets at 10 weeks on 11/12/1993 with severe bronchitis she was an absolute joy and lived life to the full so maybe its quality not quantity that counts in the end. I only lasted 10 days without a dog (was sitting in car parks to avoid going home to a dogless house until I knew my husband would be home) and found Jenna who we have now at a local sanctuary - strange really I go there often yet she had been there 7 months and our paths never crossed until I needed her. So glad you have Monty now as you sound like the sort of person who just should have a dog and a dog should have you. Enjoy him,best wishes, Lynn x
