A wagging tail, adoring eyes, barking at the door, playful tugging, frequent naps, toys strewn across the floor. With little snorts and playful barks you made your presence known and, knowing you were always there, I never felt alone. You loved it when I scratched your ears, I swear it made you smile. I could never stay angry with you, I couldn’t if I tried. The barking at the door has ceased, no wagging tail to greet me, just memories of a special friend and good times are all I see. The time has come for the tears to end for you to be happy and cheerful again. I am safe in God's home above cradled in His arms; covered with His love. We run and play by the Bridge all day waiting for the day when you'll be here to stay. You've been crying so much I feel bad I want you to be happy and not so sad. Remember the time when I was so small I couldn't even pickup the rubber ball. I fought that ball from morning to night it made you laugh, I was quite a sight. Remember teaching me sit and stay we had such fun since I didn't really obey. but you kept at it with test after test so when I entered my first show I was the best. Remember the great times we had in the past like when we walked to the park we had a blast. We'd run and play all through the park until the sun went down and it got dark. Remember the times we went for a ride I was so excited I'd jump right inside. Away we went to who knows where but you and I we didn't really care. I'll always love you, you're my best friend I'll be right with you even to the end. Hello. I've been expecting you for quite some time. Here, come sit beside us for awhile . and let me tell you about this old friend of mine. They might look tattered or maybe old But I won't say goodbye until you've been told. They had the brightest eyes I had ever seen, And wore a beautiful fur coat that would out shine a queen . They were never prissy but walked with an aire ...... And oh so polite, you could take them almost anywhere. They could run like the wind and could catch anything they chased But they protected and sat with me when I had problems to face. You could not find a friend nearly so dear. Because no matter the trouble they always stayed near... They never asked for much from me; Just to love and respect them and I think you'll agree . To give them a good meal plus a nice warm bed is not much to ask ; When they have given me all there love and to them this was no task. Now I understand you have a schedule to keep. But I have a small favor before they nod off to sleep. Dear Lord, please open your gates and call St. Francis to come escort this beloved companion across the Rainbow Bridge. Assign them to a place of honor, for they have been a faithful servant and has always done there best to please me. Bless the hands that send them to you, for they are doing so in love and compassion, freeing them from pain and suffering. Grant me the strength not to dwell on my loss. Help me remember the details of there life with the love they have shown me. And grant me the courage to honor them by sharing those memories with others. Let them remember me as well and let them know that I will always love them And when it's my time to pass over into your paradise, please allow them to accompany those who will bring me home.
